Are you getting enough choline? The nutrient behind your liver and your memory

About 90% of people do not get enough choline. It is linked to fatigue, poorer memory and fatty liver — how much you need a day and where to find it.

We pay a lot of attention to vitamins and minerals, yet a nutrient called choline is routinely forgotten in the modern diet. The statistics are alarming: roughly 90% of the population does not get enough of it. Too little choline is directly linked to chronic fatigue, poorer concentration, declining cognitive performance and a deteriorating liver.

What choline is and why the body needs it

Choline is a bioactive substance. It used to be counted among the B vitamins; today we know it is a nutrient in its own right, used by the body both as building material and as a source of energy. The liver makes a small amount itself, but nowhere near the daily need. Choline has three essential jobs:

• Liver function and fat metabolism: choline helps metabolise fats. When it is missing, fat accumulates in the liver instead of being turned into energy, which can lead to fatty liver and weaken its filtering function.
• Brain function and memory: choline is needed to make acetylcholine — the neurotransmitter responsible for memory, learning and concentration.
• Heart and blood vessels: an adequate intake helps regulate homocysteine in the blood and so lowers cardiovascular risk.

How much choline a day, and where to find it

The recommended daily amount for an adult is between 425 and 550 mg. The need is higher in pregnancy, with heavy physical load or during recovery. Choline is found mainly in animal foods — egg yolks, offal, fish. For people with high cholesterol, and for vegetarians and vegans, getting the optimal amount from an ordinary diet is therefore difficult.

The problem in focus: fatigue, memory and an overloaded liver

Signs that your body is short of choline:

• Chronic fatigue, exhaustion and poorer concentration.
• Worsening memory and trouble focusing on demanding tasks.
• A tendency to store fat around the belly, and a strained liver metabolism.

We recommend: Heplodex

3. A clean formula: unlike eating fatty meat, it delivers pure choline without the cholesterol load.
4. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

The expert view

“When developing supplements aimed at long-term vitality, we have to think about closing the gaps left by an ordinary diet. Targeted support of the liver with pure substances and no surplus calories is the shortest road to lasting health,” say the specialists behind preventive preparations.

A food supplement does not replace an examination. Liver tests are done at a blood collection point — you can book one through ZORYX.
